Why I never want to lose weight

Ever been on a weight loss journey, only to find that the "new you" didn't feel as great as you thought it would? 

You hit your target weight, but something was off. 

Maybe you felt weak, or your clothes didn't fit the way you'd imagined.

What if I told you that what you've been chasing isn't actually what you want?

Let me explain.

In the fitness world, we often hear "weight loss" and "fat loss" used interchangeably. 

But they're not the same thing. Not even close.

Weight loss is a numbers game. 

You're aiming to see that scale go down, no matter what you have to do to make it happen. 

Starve yourself, over-exercise, whatever it takes. 

But what are you really losing? 

Muscle? 

Water? 

A little bit of your soul?

Fat loss, on the other hand, is a whole different animal. 

It's about improving your body composition. 

It's about losing fat while maintaining or even gaining muscle. It's about looking and feeling better, not just lighter.

I didn't discover this until decades into my "weight loss" journey when I would lose weight and see a "skinnier fat" version of myself in the mirrorβ€”not a "leaner" or more "shredded" physique but a soft, lanky, and frankly weak body that was NOT going to age well.

When I finally started focusing on fat loss instead of weight loss, my entire mindset shifted.

I started to think about getting strong, fueling performance, and often eating MORE, and then finally being able to "lean out" with the right nutrition protocol personalized for my goals and needs.

The "before and after" photo above was before I started to lift and focus on fat loss and body composition vs. after my first building and cutting phases doing it the right way.

I weighed MORE on the scale in the "after" photo.

When you focus solely on weight loss, you're playing a dangerous game. 

You risk losing muscle mass, which can slow down your metabolism and make it even harder to lose weight in the future. 

You're also more likely to regain the weight you lost, and maybe even more.

But when you focus on fat loss, you're making sustainable changes. 

You're becoming a better version of yourself, not just a lighter one.

And here's the best part: there are multiple paths to achieve this, tailored to where you're starting from and what your lifestyle is like. 

Whether you're a newbie to lifting, someone with a high body fat percentage, or even an advanced athlete, there's a fat loss strategy for you.

So, the next time you think about "losing weight," ask yourself what you really want.

Is it to see a smaller number on the scale, or is it to look in the mirror and love what you see?

If it's the latter, then it's time to shift your focus from weight loss to fat loss.
